A 24-year-old man was shot several times last night.

Police rushed to the Unfinished Church in St George’s at about 9.40pm after reports of gunshots.

One caller reported that a man had been shot and taken to hospital in a private vehicle.

Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley said: “With regard to the shooting incident in St George’s, whilst I don’t want to go into too much detail, evidence recovered at the scene will no doubt assist the investigators as they seek to determine what happened.

“As we’ve previously stated, you can expect to see stepped up police activity for the remainder of the holiday weekend.”

The man underwent surgery for his injuries, but they are not considered to be life-threatening.

Police said evidence was recovered at the scene and that the investigation continued.

Detectives have also interviewed the injured man in hospital.
