Imitation firearm found in city trash can
Police discovered an imitation firearm in a trash can at the weekend.
A police spokesman said police were alerted to a man acting suspiciously near Union Street in North East Hamilton.
The spokesman said: “Reports are the suspect was seen to have placed an object inside a trash receptacle located on the sidewalk.
“Officers responded and upon inspecting the trash can, which belongs to the Corporation of Hamilton, they recovered an imitation firearm.”
He added the incident, which happened about 10.20pm on Sunday, was still under investigation.
The imitation weapon was one of several incidents handled by police over the weekend.
The Bermuda Coastguard spotted a man riding a jet ski in a “dangerous manner” near Paradise Lakes in the Great Sound about 7.10pm on Sunday.
The spokesman said: “The coastguard team sought to intercept the individual, but he attempted to escape by going through the [Great Sound and Little Sound], Grey’s Bridge and around the Dockyard.
“He was, however, eventually stopped and arrested and detained for operating a watercraft whilst impaired.”

Officers also attended a boat fire on Saturday in Warwick.
The spokesman said emergency services were alerted to a fire on a boat at a private dock just off Middle Road and Riddell’s Bay Road.
He said: “Upon arrival they found that a 42-year-old male on board the vessel was had sustained burns to his arm and legs.
“He was conscious and breathing and being treated by EMS personnel for injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
