Police investigate spate of boat thefts

Marine equipment has been stolen in a spate of thefts from boats.Outboard motors, electronic equipment, anchors, chains and alcohol were among the items taken in a string of incidents in the East End and Hamilton.A Bermuda Police Service spokesman asked the public to “report any persons you might see acting suspiciously in areas where boats are moored and report the sale of second-hand marine equipment that appears to be of a suspicious nature”.He added: “It should be noted that it is an offence to purchase stolen property.”The spokesman said boat owners should remove valuable items from their boat and take precautions, where possible, to secure removable items.The spokesman recommended that boat owners photograph their boat and equipment and note serial numbers and identifying marks • Anyone with information on stolen marine equipment should call 211, the main police number 295-0011, or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477
