The Autism Spectrum Disorder classroom used at Paget Primary School was back open for business this week, according to Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education.

Mr Rabain, who visited the ASD class last month to watch the programme in session, commended reforms under Plan 2022, the school strategy adopted in December 2017.

The minister said: “Plan 2022 outlines the adaptive and technical strategies, and sustained direction that will enable us to better meet student needs and to create transformational outcomes for all students in the Bermuda public school system.”

Several public schools have ASD programmes, which cater to students of different ages with varying abilities on the autism spectrum.

Paget Primary students were joined by Mr Rabain on January 23, and the designated classroom was declared open this Tuesday after remediation.

Mr Rabain said: “Student and staff safety is of the utmost importance. Rather than rushing students and teachers back into a designated space, we prefer to take the necessary time and precautions to ensure safety.”
