Boarding schools are again visiting Bermuda for an international event.

The International Schools Fair Bermuda will take place at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club tomorrow and Thursday.

Staff from 45 schools in Britain, the United States and Canada will be on hand. Niall Browne, of British school placement service BvS Education, said that for the first time a UK State Boarding School would attend.

She added: “These offer a full boarding school experience for only $18,000 a year — making a boarding school education available to many more Bermudians.”

Also new at the event this year will be the presence of the US Consulate to discuss visa issues with families considering American schools. Financial planning firm IFP will also be available to help parents plan for their children’s education.

Sophy Walker, the director of marketing from Felsted School, in Essex, England, said that Bermudian pupils “really do thrive in a boarding school environment and seem to embrace every aspect of school life”.

She added: “They also bring their very own Bermudian spirit to the school community, which we love.”

Ann Pickrell, the assistant head of Williston Northampton School, in Massachusetts, said: “We are very lucky to have some excellent Bermuda students. Our alumni are, perhaps, our best salesmen and women.”

Kathy LaBranche, the director of admissions at Trinity College School, in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada, encouraged interested pupils and parents to attend the event. She added: “Come along to the fair and meet schools, but only by visiting boarding schools can you fully appreciate the wealth of opportunities we all offer.”

The free event runs from 4pm to 8pm each day. Changes to the schedule are possible because of the threat of Hurricane Humberto.

A “mini fair” may be held on Friday if weather conditions force a cancellation.
