A new room dedicated to sensory and STEAM learning has opened at the Bermuda National Library. A Government spokeswoman said that the learning centre would use auditorium space at the youth library. She added: “The youth library aims to develop the whole child and to support lifelong learning. “Therefore, we are always looking for innovative and creative ways to stimulate learning.“The sensory options that will be made available in the room will allow children to engage their senses to improve concentration and learning.”The spokeswoman aid that the equipment and programmes offered would be appropriate for children of different ages and learning styles. She said that STEAM labs — for science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics — would be held on a regular basis “to give children access points for both self-guided and guided student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking”.The spokeswoman added: “As children are now born into a technology-driven world, it is imperative that they are given opportunities at a young age to be exposed to STEAM learning that will allow them to become active participants in this ever-changing world.”She thanked Richard and Yemi Oduntan for a donation to make the room possible. The spokeswoman added: “We encourage parents to take advantage of the Sensory and STEAM room as well as all the many other services that the library has to offer.The new room will be open on Tuesdays from 2pm to 3pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
