Hurricane cleanup planned for weekend

The public have been urged to help clean up horticultural waste left behind after two major storms three months ago.The Ministry of Public Works and Keep Bermuda Beautiful have organised a weekend horticultural community clean-up on Saturday and Sunday, from 7.30am to 4pm.Trucking permits have been waived for Sunday, and people are encouraged to dispose of waste at the Marsh Folly Composting Facility. The island was hit by Category 3 Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Jerry in September.Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, the Minister of Public Works, said: “To this day, remnants of that encounter, in the form of tree limbs and other horticultural waste, remain in areas around Bermuda.“We are now in the final month of the year, and will soon see the start of 2020. I don’t know about you, but I would rather enter the new year with Bermuda looking its very best.”Colonel Burch added: “With that goal in mind, I ask that everyone go grab their family, friends, and neighbours, and lets do something good in our neighbourhoods. We can all work together to get Bermuda clean.”
