As a result of the precautions being taken to limit the potential threats associated with Covid-19, Earth Hour activities around the world have taken on an entirely different format.Greenrock Chairman Eugene Dean said,? “Our observance of Earth Hour is clearly different this year, however, we are all excited about the prospects, and look forward to the community participating tomorrow evening, between 8:30 - 9:30pm, by switching off their lights at home.Our goal is to “Change Mindsets” by raising awareness, and Earth Hour gives us an ideal platform to disseminate information about how we can all live more sustainably, and take action to address both climate change and the rapid loss of nature.”In the interest of public safety the Annual Earth Hour Celebration was cancelled earlier this month and just yesterday, due to mandates restricting all public and utility workers to essential services only, plans to turn off lights in and around a few symbolic buildings in Hamilton, Dockyard and St. George’s have also been deferred until 2021. With all public Earth Hour activities cancelled this year, the success of the initiative is now totally dependent on public participation from home. The theme for Earth Hour this year is “Take time to pause”, and in that light, Greenrock encourages all Bermudian residents to join millions around the world by turning off any unnecessary lights this Saturday evening between 8:30 and 9:30 pm in an effort to preserve nature for our own health, happiness and survival. Greenrock’s Chairman also said, ?“Despite the numerous challenges we all face navigating the new social realities in Bermuda, social distancing and people being encouraged to stay at home, provides the ideal conditions for the entire community to embrace our theme.Taking time to pause affords us the opportunity to spend time with ourselves and our loved ones.
