Damian Palanyandi and Fraser Hunt came from one shot back to win the Bermuda Four Ball Championships at Port Royal Golf Course yesterday.

The pair took advantage after overnight leaders Jarryd Dillas and Will Haddrell faltered during the final round to win by three shots.

Palanyandi and Hunt saved their best for last as they fired a five-under 66, the day’s lowest round, to finish at eight-under 134.

The second-place team of Kenny Leseur and Leroy Burch and third-place pair Dillas and Haddrell both finished at five-under.

The 36-hole championship remained wide open with four strokes separating leaders Dillas and Haddrell from sixth-place pair Richard Neame and Ben Hodge, the defending champions.

With the title within their grasp, Palanyandi and Fraser got straight down to business, rattling in birdies at No 1 and No 4 to surge into the lead.

The pair extended their lead with another birdie at No 7 to make the turn bogey free at three under for the round, six under for the championship. Palanyandi and Hunt continued their relentless assault on the back nine where they carded two more birdies and a solitary bogey at No 14 to put more distance between themselves and the chasing pack coming in.

Also firing the day’s lowest round of 66 was the rallying Leseur and Burch who birdied No 17 to edge Dillas and Haddrell on a tie-break after the latter pair made par at the penultimate hole. Leseur and Burch were also bogey free on the front where they made eagle at No 7 to put more pressure on Dillas and Haddrell.

Overnight leaders Ann Symonds and Tracy Burgess clinched the Ladies Championships by a comfortable six shots over second place Linda Down and Katrin Burnie.

Melinda Frith and Gladys Chambaz rounded out the podium, another two shots back.

Also protecting their overnight lead were Craig Christensen and Bill Pitt to win the Senior Men’s Championships by 11 shots. The team of Peter Shaw and Michael Naugler were second followed by Dave Ramrattan and Alistair Smith in third.
