Daniel Augustus says there were a lot of positives to take away from an indifferent round playing on the Moonlight Tour in Orlando, Florida, this week.

The Bermudian professional shot an even-par 72, which included five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey, during Thursday’s 18-hole tournament at the 7,363-yard Greg Norman-designed Champions Gate Internatonal Golf Course to earn a share of third among a field of 23 players.

“I hit some great shots and hit some poor ones,” the multiple Moonlight Tour winner said. “Made some good putts and made some poor strokes.

“It was a very scrappy round, but I’m looking at the positives — and there were a lot of bright spots.

“I had every opportunity to do worse than I did, so I’m glad about that. Still, there’s always room for improvement.”

The former Bermuda Open, Bacardi Par 3 and Bermuda PGA Stroke Play Championships winner finished tied with Peyton White, from North Carolina.

Ted Smith, from Ohio, won the tournament after firing a five-under 67.

Ryan Wenzler, also from Ohio, finished second after carding a 71.

Augustus has produced six top-three finishes on the Moonlight Tour to date, including two wins.

He captured his first professional title in the United States after winning the Moonlight Tour event at the MetroWest Golf Course in Orlando last year by two shots over Anthony Phillips and Patrick Sheehen, both from Florida.

The 31-year old then captured a second straight title on the tour after completing a three-shot victory over Devin Suri, from Florida, at the same links-style Champions Gate International Golf Course that he competed at this week.

Last year’s winners are again expected to be thick in the hunt for honours along with the teams of Jevon Roberts and Elizabeth Carpio, and Craig Christensen and Ann Symonds.

The couples tournament features two formats, with today’s opening round best ball and tomorrow’s second and final round a modified Pinehurst with foursomes.
