The annual Coppertone Beach Volleyball Tournament raised $2,000 for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre in support of the SunSmart Programme.

The fundraiser, organised by the Bermuda Volleyball Association and Bermuda General Agency, took place in August at Horseshoe Bay and featured the final beach volleyball tournament of the summer season.

Annilee McBeath, marketing brand manager at BGA, said in a press release: “Coppertone has been supporting this event for nine years and we are very proud to be able to give back to the community. It is crucial to teach children at an early age the importance of sun protection.”

BVA co-president and director Elisabeth Rae said: “The BVA is excited to continue our partnership with BGA on this event and to help increase awareness of the importance of being SunSmart for all beach goers.

“The BVA’s ability to provide a donation to Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is a worthwhile way to give back to our community.”

The SunSmart Programme aims to increase the awareness of youth about the dangers of sun exposure. Studies show most of the skin’s damage occurs before the age of 18.
