Covid-19: cleaning companies protect staff

Some cleaning companies have cut services in a bid to protect staff and customers from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tarah Woolgar, owner of Maid in Bermuda, said the company had suspended services to people in quarantine and its commercial contracts for the duration of the crisis.

Mrs Woolgar added: “But we have also decided to help our community by offering first month free for new commercial contracts when they reopen to help them catch up

“This is going to impact small businesses such as ours greatly but staff are being taken care of, as is our community. A lot of vacation rentals owners are going to be hit by this as well.

Ms Woolgar said: “We have plenty of disinfectant, that’s for sure, so we welcome the need.”

Mrs Woolgar said when self-quarantine policies were announced by Government, the company contacted its customers.

She told clients: “Upon your arrival from away, we will not be cleaning for two weeks until you and your family have been cleared — rest assured when we return to cleaning, we will do extra hours if you need and even send a team to do a good deep and disinfecting clean for you.

“If you could kindly be proactive to let us know if you have just returned from travel or when you will with a date of arrival — this also includes family members in your household.

“That way we have a date to return to your home and take care of business.”

Mrs Woolgar said the response from clients to the changes was good.

She added: “They have been very thankful that I have been in constant communication and all of them responded to cancel services for the required time if they had been asked to quarantine

“We have probably the best clients ever. They are taking it all seriously and our staff are as well.”

Day and Night Services sent a message to clients to ask them to report if anyone in their household was ill.

The message said: “At present we are still offering services, this will help to keep your house sanitised and you a little safer from Covid-19.

“Our maid will attend as normal with all health precautions taken to protect themselves, unless you notify us you don’t wish to have services.”
