Up close and personal services such as waxing and beard grooming were given the green light today.David Burt, the Premier, said sustained low numbers of positive tests for the coronavirus had helped officials come to the decision to allow more services to resume. He added: “Facial grooming of beards and eyebrows, as well as waxing and massages can now be provided.”The Government also signed off on extra capacity for charter boats as part of a “phase 3B” relaxation of restrictions to combat the spread of Covid-19.But Mr Burt said: “Operators are obliged to follow public health guidelines which state the frequency of coronavirus testing that should be followed for the providers of these high risk services.“The close contact involved in these services requires greater mitigation of the risk of transmission.“Service providers must act responsibly and customers must be vigilant for their own safety.” John Rankin, the Governor, signed regulations for the move earlier today.Mr Burt, who has talked about his desire for a shave, shared a photo online after he took advantage of the resumed service. Spas are also now permitted to open and the resumption of personal services also covers therapeutic massage and tattooing.Mr Burt said the amended regulations for charter vessels were based on the size of the boat and its ability to maintain distancing rules. He added: “The high level of compliance we have seen from our community is critical to the progress we are making in reopening Bermuda.“I cannot emphasise enough the importance of testing for those who want to continue to offer these services and the continued use of masks and all of the physical distancing protocols which are effectively keeping us safe.”He added: “Slowly but surely, we are getting back to normal.”The island is in the third phase of a four part return to normal life, with the last phase scheduled to start on July 1.• For details on Phase 3B, click on the PDF under “Related Media”.
