Bermuda has been upgraded to a Level 2 travel health advisory notice by the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.The Covid-19 risk in Bermuda is now listed as “moderate”.But the CDC recommended that older people, those with underlying medical conditions or at increased risk of severe illness should postpone all non-essential travel to the island.Bermuda was earlier listed as a high-risk Level 3 country, which advised US citizens to avoid anything but essential travel.Health minister Kim Wilson said: “This change is reflective of our efforts to minimise the impact of Covid-19 and halt its spread in our community — efforts which the rest of the world is now recognising.“This public recognition by the CDC is great for our island economically. American residents will naturally feel more inclined to visit us which will positively impact our economy.”Ms Wilson said the Ministry of Health was working closely with the Bermuda Tourism Authority to ensure visitors received appropriate and clear messaging about how to visit Bermuda safely, including following the testing regime and quarantine guidelines and general health practices such as mask-wearing and physical distancing.She added: “It is my goal that we soon join the ranks of those countries classed as low risk travel destinations.”The change in status was announced after the Department of State lifted its advisory that all US citizens should avoid international travel earlier this month.A spokeswoman for the US Consulate said: “All US citizens are advised to read country specific travel advisories and US Embassy and Consulate Covid-19 pages for updates on the impact of the virus worldwide.“We continue to recommend US citizens exercise caution when travelling abroad due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic.”US citizens are encouraged to follow updates on Travel.state.gov.
