An information session to learn about a programme to help jobseekers in the hospitality industry will take place today.It comes ahead of the Learn-to-Earn programme, due to start next month, which pays participants while they train for careers in the restaurant industry.The programme, initially funded by independent restaurant groups, is organised in partnership with the Department of Workforce Development, Bermuda College and the Tomasz Tabor Memorial Fund, with administrative and promotional support from the Bermuda Tourism Authority.The project is part of an overall plan being developed in collaboration with the Government and industry stakeholders to attract jobseekers into tourism.A 2019 PwC Bermuda study indicated the island’s need for hospitality workers will increase as new hotels open by 2021, including St Regis Bermuda Resort, Azura Bermuda and the Bermudiana Beach Resort.Karla Lacey, the chief operating officer for the BTA, said: “We encourage anyone who thinks they might be interested and would like to find out more, to fill out the brief online survey to register with the programme database. The industry is committed to attracting Bermudian jobseekers to sustainable restaurant careers, as the hospitality sector is set to expand significantly in the next few years.”• The information session will begin at 3pm at the Department of Workforce Development office on Parliament Street in Hamilton.
