Roads are unacceptable

Chapel of Ease Road in St David’s

Dear Sir,

Please publish this letter because the situation with the roads in St David’s is highly dangerous for vehicular passage and totally unsafe for walking passage.

Immediate attention must be given to the overgrown vegetation growing into the public roads in St David’s. In some areas there is only a half-lane clearance, causing vehicles to drive on to the opposite side to clear the overgrown vegetation. This is totally unacceptable and extremely dangerous. If the existing Works & Engineering crew cannot handle the required works, then certainly manpower is available by using members of the Prison Farm. These prisoners who cost this country $80,000 or thereabout annually can get out there and clean the streets and parks.

Put them on a point system for good behaviour and hard work in making Bermuda safe; get them back into society and reduce the annual overhead.

In addition to cleaning St David’s roads, get out there to Cooper’s Island Reserve — it, too, is a disgrace and is totally overgrown, causing young cedars to struggle to survive.

The Bermuda Land Development Company is upgrading the parking area, which is fine, but get out there and clean all the overgrown vegetation — it is an embarrassment for tourists to see.

Fix the signs that lay broken on the ground and take some pride. Please get these areas attended to.
