Dear Sir,

I read with interest your article on St George’s Club in yesterday’s edition of The Royal Gazette. Many of us are angered to the point where we will walk away from our investment rather than pay the exorbitant amount demanded by the club management.

I agree with my fellow member’s assessment that the SGC ownership is trying to drive out timeshare members, and making us pay for the privilege. For what they are asking me to pay, I could book a week at the Pompano Beach Club in a deluxe room, including breakfast and dinner, and have $1,000 left over for incidentals.

The members who visit SGC are highly supportive of the restaurants and merchants of the Town of St George, and there is some question as to whether those who take our place — if there is anyone to take our place — will be as supportive.

I suggest that you contact the minister Jamahl Simmons for his comment on this issue. Many of us have e-mailed him, pleading that he get publicly involved in this, but none of us to my knowledge has received a response to our communications.

What is happening at SGC is sad. Just look at the recent members’ Facebook posts on the SGC page showing the poor condition of some of the units. I have visited Bermuda every year but one since my first visit in 1970. It has been my home away from home and I look forward each year to my return.

“Welcome back home” was always the greeting from the maître d’ when I made a return visit to the Ariel Sands during the years before SGC. When I returned to SGC, similar greetings were received from the SGC staff and other members, who have over the years become good friends. But I will walk away before I will give in to the demands of SGC ownership.
