We recently had family visiting from Britain and took them for dinner at Flanagan’s on Harbour Nights.

After dinner, we walked Front Street enjoying the Gombeys and the lovely atmosphere. My nephew, who is 4 years old, was with us and of course wanted to try the Bouncy Castle, etc, so we bought a ticket which lets you enjoy everything in the children’s area.

This was not the best experience for those of us watching, and in many cases is an accident waiting to happen. There are big boys of 12 or 13 climbing a 20-foot bouncy wall with children of 3 or 4 years coming behind them as they bounce their way to the top.

These same older children then proceed to come down the slide backwards doing various tricks. Mixed age groups on the Bouncy Castle is also a cause for concern.

The young people who are manning the various areas need some help as well — no smiles, no happy chat with the little ones and, in the case of the racetrack, they could barely give help when the kids got stuck.

Harbour Nights is a lovely, family friendly event, but I believe the organisers need to look at the above before a child gets hurt and they need to encourage the staff to contribute to the party atmosphere.
