Dear Sir,

Regarding the headline in The Royal Gazette of Friday, June 21, 2019, which read “Sentencing delayed for threats to Burt”, I wish to pose several questions.

Does the headline fully explain that the subject of the threat, Burt, is the Premier of Bermuda? Is the headline not “cavalier” in its context or, worse, disrespectful? The Editor may wish to comment.

The next questions are directed at the investigative authorities. If the initial threat was made against the Premier on October 4, 2017, albeit that the initial complaint was made to the police on October 13, 2017, why if the culprit’s identity was known was he not arrested? He was able to make a further threat to the Premier’s life in the UK while the Premier was also in the UK. On March 28, 2018, a further threat was reported by the Premier; this time the threat was made against him, his wife and family.

The culprit was arrested only in May 2018, and only after he returned to Bermuda.

After his arrest for allegedly making several egregious and deadly threats against the Premier of Bermuda, he was then offered bail.

The question to all of these disturbing events is, why. Why the delay in arresting the culprit?

Why was he offered bail?

Were the threats against the Premier taken seriously by the investigating authorities?

These questions need to be answered by the Minister of National Security, the Commissioner of Police and the Governor of Bermuda.
