Dear Sir,

It is interesting to note that an elected member of the sitting government is anxious to cement old relationships between African-Bermudians and Portuguese-Bermudians because English-Bermudians caused racial segregation within this once united group. Hardly a good step towards racial equality, but more like a step to cement and encourage another form of separation.

Quite clearly obvious to all white Bermudians, there is a concerted effort within the ranks to establish a rift within the community for political gain. A recent outburst in the Senate chamber was a prime example of the concerted effort to establish a division between black and white Bermudians. At that time, a misguided assumption that all white Bermudians were oligarchs was made.

A more recent outburst in the House of Assembly assumed that all white Bermudians drink Martinis at Royal Bermuda Yacht Club on a daily basis. These recent events, coupled with a constant barrage of anti-white rhetoric flying across the House floor do nothing but damage to the fragile Bermuda economy.

How is it possible to create racial harmony within this small community when there is clearly an established agenda to maintain an ethnic separation?

How is it possible to encourage outside business to establish themselves in Bermuda when they see and hear the racist, verbal attacks used to create personal gain within political ranks?

May I suggest that those in elected positions cast aside their biased opinions of those they assume are all gifted and white. Internally and externally, it is of the utmost importance that we project a more harmonious atmosphere within our community. Failure to encourage this will not bode well for anyone living on this very small island.
