Fondest memories of racing at Shelly Bay

Throwback Tuesday: when racing at Shelly Bay was popular. Pictured is Oliver Caisey Sr after a victory on Fanny in 1936

Dear Sir,I hold many happy memories of your beautiful island from when I was contracted by the Bermuda Jockey Club as a lightweight jockey from December 1951 to May 1952, and then again from December 1952 to May 1953.My wife and I celebrated our diamond wedding anniversary on November 14 and arrived in Bermuda on November 17 to continue our celebrations before returning to Britain on November 26.Is it possible that any of your readers might know anyone who had any connections to horse racing and Shelly Bay?If so, I would really like to meet them. You had a very famous Calypso band called the Talbot Brothers. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction where I could get any recordings of their music. This would be greatly appreciated.CLIFF and JOY TAYLOREnglandEditor’s note: the Taylors can be reached on 293-0035 at El-Ville Hideaway in Claytown, Bailey’s Bay
