Government plan a recipe for chaos

Dear Sir,Bob Stewart and Tony Siese make excellent points in their letters about the Government’s plans to “reform” our present healthcare system. In addition to the very real concerns emphasised by them, should we not also be asking if this isn’t a thinly veiled attempt for this government, or one of their cronies, to make a great deal of money from running a system that is run quite efficiently by the private sector at present? To my knowledge, it has not yet been announced who will run this nationalised health service. If it is the Government itself, then it will be a disaster based on its previous track record, as pointed out by Messrs Siese and Stewart. This is the Government that cannot even collect the trash twice weekly or deal with the resultant rat problem; this is the Government that cannot reform a bus schedule. If it isn’t to be the Government that runs the new healthcare system, we can bet that it will be a firm or group of individuals with links to the proponents of this reform — the “friends and family” programme.Where is the expertise to run a healthcare system? Never mind, we can hire teams of consultants. Who is going to pay for all this? We are, the taxpayer. If we allow this to happen, we all deserve the chaos that will inevitably follow.ELSPETH GRAYWarwick
