SwitchWorx has been in business for 20 years — a long time in the fast-changing world of information technology.

The company has had to evolve with the developing demands of its customers over the two decades in order to survive and thrive.

SwitchWorx, which is based in the SE Pearman Building on Par-la-Ville Road, started off providing structure cabling solutions but has evolved over the years into offering integrated security solutions, which includes supplying high-definition surveillance cameras and data centre solutions.

The company works in partnership with some of the world’s information communications technology leaders.

Andre Lemaire, director and general manager at SwitchWorx, believes that the talent and dedication of staff members has played a key role in the longevity of the business.

“Twenty years in business, given the economic times, has been challenging but our products and people speak for themselves,” Mr Lemaire said.

“I think we are the only company who spends the time both in house and sending our people away to train our staff.”

The company prides itself on having a large proportion of Bermudian workers.

Mr Lemaire said the firm sat down with the Department of Workforce Development to find ways to get more young people in the industry by offering training opportunities.

“As general manager I’m responsible for building a team of people,” Mr Lemaire said. “We are the leaders in what we do.”

The company has been offered work on the airport project, for which they will need more employees.

“This is a massive one, for that we need more people, so we are looking at ways to get them. We want to get the younger people and train them up.

“We are hoping to have a small, local team that will be a part of that product at the end of the day. To work on something that size is very fulfilling. I think for some of the younger people who work for us, this will be a good experience,” Mr Lemaire said.

The company has changed its signage and branding to try to better represent the company into which it has evolved.

“We have had a lot of clients that had a hard time with what our old logo meant and they couldn’t really read it completely, so we cleared it up,” Mr Lemaire said.

“Our motto is moving forward, as you can see from the design of the logo and essentially that’s what we want to do — move forward and help our clients progress in the technology side, in security, structure cabling and the development of everything you need in terms of infostucture. It is sleeker and more modern.”

The company has won awards at home and abroad.

Most recently, it was presented with the 2017 sales and service partner of the year award for the Caribbean region by one of their main product partners, APC/Schneider Electric at an event in Miami, Florida.

SwitchWorx is proactive in pushing the value of its products.

Mr Lemaire said: “The company is having a lunch-and-learn event on June 21, open to all business professionals to learn more about security and the latest products.

“Our key vendors, including APC, are coming to Bermuda to put on the seminar, highlighting what’s new in the market of security and new functionalities.”

The event will be held at the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce.
