A new Bermudian-themed escape room has opened in Dockyard.

Nathan Swan and Iain Redford created Locked On The Rock, which features aspects of Bermuda’s history, giving tourists a way to discover facts about the island, and also testing the knowledge and skills of locals.

Mr Swan and Mr Redford embarked upon the idea while on a trip to Amsterdam.

“While on vacation we visited our first escape room and became addicted ever since. After that, every time we visit a new place we find one to go to,” said Mr Swan, who has a background in theatre and hospitality.

Although this is the second escape room attraction locally, they wanted to be set apart by putting a spin on the industry.

“Our main goal is to make sure that we did something that is very unique and to celebrate the island. Iain does a lot of set decorating and event set-ups, and my experience is theatre shows,” said Mr Swan, explaining how they brought their talents together to create the game rooms.

There are two rooms, and the plan is to add a third next month.

One of the rooms is called The Tucker Cross, while the other is Cup Match Hangover. After entering a themed room with a group of up to six players, the door is locked and the team has 60 minutes to work together, find clues and solve puzzles to escape from the room.

There is no age limit, but it is geared towards those aged 13 and over.

Mr Redford, who also has a background in hospitality, expressed gratitude to those who have given feedback, which he said has been phenomenal.

“There is a lot of foot traffic because of the cruise ships and location of Dockyard; local families come in as well. It really brings the families together,” he said.

The pair will start booking corporate events, parties and schools in the near future.

Locked On The Rock is open seven days a week.
