Funworx, which has a pop-up location at Gombey’s Restaurant and Bar in St Davids, is providing electric scooter tours to guests.

The company rents watersports products as well as their newly URB-E electric scooters, which can be used for scavenger hunts, birthday parties and guided tours.

The business started the East End pop-up location last year summer and is ready for this year’s wave.

“It has been steady since opening in April but expect it to pick up,” Walisfort Manders, co-owner of Funworx, said.

Mr Manders started off the business by renting crystal clear kayaks before teaming up with Keishen Bean and Aaron Williams to form Funworx.

The St David’s site is seasonal and its attractiveness to visitors has received a boost this year from upgraded facilities at Clearwater Beach, including eight Twizy charging stations and a revamped parking lot at Turtle Beach.

The tours aim to help individuals learn more about the historic area around Cooper’s Island and St David’s.

Funworx used to operate from Daniel’s Head in Somerset, but the owners are happy to experience the eastern side of the island.

“There is so much history around Cooper’s Island and we are able to share this with people when they do the tours,” Mr Manders said.

Right now the guided tours are Monday and Tuesday only, but extra days will be added if the demand is there.

“We also are in the finalisation stages of working with the Fairmont Southampton in doing the electric scooter tours,” Mr Manders added.

He stressed that the scooters are not for renting without a chaperon and are only used for guided tours. “We only offer chaperon tours. No one rides them on their own without a guide.”

Besides the scooters, Funworx supplies guests with watersports products including paddle boats, Eclipse paddle boards, crystal clear kayaks and hydrobikes.

Mr Manders said the company is all about bringing the community together and is big on team-building activities.

“We want to extend our scooter tours across the island. We plan to do children’s parties in a safe location off the roads, as prevention is better than cure,” he said. “We will start branching off into doing corporate tours for companies that want to ‘team-build’ with their staff.”

The Funworx rental shop is open from Monday to Sunday, 11am to 9pm. For more information, call 595-2925
