Charity to benefit from T-shirt sales

New line: a few of the Cup Match Collection T-shirts created by #itsabermudathing

A new line of T-shirts in celebration of Cup Match has been launched by #itsabermudathing.

Described as “100 per cent authentic Bermuda T-shirt line”, the designs in the Cup Match Collection include slogans such as “Up de country” for Somerset supporters and “Dahn de country” for St George’s fans.

The business #itsabermudathing has the tagline “wearable Bermie culture”. Its designs aim to invoke pride in Bermuda and Bermudian culture, but avoid using the word Bermuda. Instead, the designs feature words and imagery that “can only be deciphered by those that truly know and have really experienced Bermuda”.

Examples include an image of the late Johnny Barnes; the island’s international telephone code 441; and a blue T-shirt with pink stripes and the words “pinkandblue.”

The business has pledged to donate a portion of each sale to the Big Brothers Big Sisters charity.

Patrina O’Connor-Paynter, managing director of BBBS, said: “Cup Match is an exciting time in Bermuda. The rivalry is huge and these T-shirts are sure to be a big hit. We are extremely happy to have partnered with #itsabermudathing. The brand has successfully and brilliantly encapsulated our culture in each attractive and innovative design.

“I hope to see a ‘sea’ of people wearing #itsabermudathing Cup Match Tees. We are calling on all to help us reach the goal of selling at least 500.”

In a statement, #itsabermudathing said each of its designs has “a deep-rooted sense of Bermuda pride and exhibits the many elements of our culture” and added: “Our partnership with and support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda represents our passion for our home and our desire to continually cultivate positive community vibes and ultimately a socially healthy Bermuda.”

The T-shirt collection can be viewed and ordered through the online store at www.itsabermudathing.com. The deadline for Cup Match Collection orders is July 1
