Patrice Morgan is launching a new line of handbags named Fennel after finding success with her Bermuda Born brand.

The launch will happen today at The Tuck Shop, on Middle Road, Southampton.

“The name Fennel resonates with Bermuda,” Ms Morgan said. “Fennel plants grow locally and I just like the name.”

She explained the difference between the two brands and her reason for creating it.

“It’s a bit more affordable than the Bermuda Born line.

“I had limitations with the Bermuda Born line because a lot of retailers had an issue with exclusivity and I wanted to get the product everywhere, but with Fennel it’s different because it’s something that can be in more than one shop and isn’t something that has to be limited to an exclusive retailer.”

The Fennel is made of leather and comes in neutral and darker shades. The style bags are also more diverse than Bermuda Born, which consists of more pinks, blues and brighter colours.

“It gives me an opportunity to show my full design capabilities,” Ms Morgan added.

She also plans to introduce a limited-edition wax canvas tote bag.

“This is an everyday and all-weather waterproof bag that dries quickly,” she said.

Over the past year, Ms Morgan has grown both professionally and creatively.

Today’s launch will be at the Tuck Shop, which is near the Island Cuisine restaurant, “We are calling it Summer Soirée. We will have complimentary drinks and desserts from the dessert café there. The bags will be among The Tuck Shop’s general store where they sell clothing.

“This is a chance for people to come and mix and mingle, enjoy food and drinks.”

She mentioned that everything will be complimentary but those wishing to attend must do so through shop_fennel on Instagram or the website.

Customers who buy a clutch purse will have the option to have initials marked on it by local artist Carlos Dill.

Fennel is sold at People’s Pharmacy, Lifestyles, &Partners, Pulp & Circumstance and The Tuck Shop.
