Sisters with a passion for fashion and the environment will launch their new eco-friendly Bermuda themed clothing line today.

Amanda Temple and Sacha Blackburne created Indigo Song, a line of wearable souvenirs that are eco-friendly, sustainable and non-toxic.

“We will be creating beautiful, elegant, timeless pieces with stories to remind them of their time in Bermuda,” Ms Temple said.

Their aim is to create a collection of pieces that will bring joy, endure the test of time, and not harm the environment. “I live right by the sea and as I wander along the shore in front of my house I am confronted by the abundance of debris that has made it’s way from far reaching shores,” Ms Temple said. “It is important for us to not contribute to this global problem.”

The resort collection will feature fabrics with Bermudian-inspired imagery, a combination of our photographs and watercolour paintings.

“Our name was created to include an element of Bermuda,” Ms Temple said. “The tree frogs start singing at sunset and reach a crescendo as the twilight sky turns indigo.”

Both Ms Temple and Ms Blackburne have been photographers for 20 years and believe that, like photography, the clothing line is an extension of their desire to give people souvenirs they can treasure.

“I fell into photography when I moved back to the island with my husband in 2003. I quickly fell in love with my new career, which allowed me to capture the intimacy and happiness of love and family for so many,” Ms Blackburne said.” The idea of the Indigo Song dresses capturing memories is a continuation of that desire to capture love,” she said.

Although their full collection will launch next year, the pair are excited about having a pop-up shop at Elbow Beach.

Ms Temple developed a love for beautiful fashions early on in life. “I don’t remember much of my childhood, so from time to time I’ll ask my parents and sister to fill me in,” she said.

“I recently asked my mother what toys I enjoyed as a child and she said that from a very early age I was not interested in toys, but had a love for pretty dresses.

“I still love clothes and over the past 20 years have collected beautiful, timeless pieces by Max Mara, Emilio Pucci and Salvatore Ferragamo as well as classic, elegant basics. Most of them are made from natural fabrics that feel wonderful on the skin. I treasure these items, look after them and they have lasted and bring me joy every time I wear them.”

The pop-up shop will be open from today until Monday, located at Elbow Beach, under the palms at Mickey’s Bar and Bistro, from 12pm to 7pm.
