Calling all tourism entrepreneurs

Alex Wolf

Visitor industry entrepreneurs have been encouraged to attend the “Inspire Bermuda” event taking place on Friday and Saturday at the Fairmont Southampton resort. The event, which brings together multicultural creatives and entrepreneurs from the United States and Bermuda, is being presented by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation in tandem with New York-based Driven Society, an organisation focused on multicultural millennials.Several successful executives and company founders are participating as guest speakers, including investor John Henry, a partner in Harlem Capital, author and speaker Alex Wolf, and influencer Jonathan Jackson, founder of American media company Blavity. Glenn Jones, chief experience development officer at the Bermuda Tourism Authority, said: “Having read the biographies of these entrepreneurs, I was totally inspired by their accomplishments.“Entrepreneurialism is a universal language. So even though none of the speakers is specifically in tourism, I’m convinced their stories and teachings can motivate Bermuda’s consistently growing crop of hospitality entrepreneurs.”The two-day event begins Friday at 6pm, with a marketplace where attendees can shop visual artists and independent brands from Bermuda and elsewhere. That will be followed Saturday morning with the Fruition Seminar at which successful US-based entrepreneurs under the age of 35 will take part in a series of moderated conversations designed to inspire others and connect creative communities in New York and Bermuda. Driven Society has made tickets available to high-school students to encourage the next generation of innovators.Dustin Edelhertz, adviser and partner at Driven Society, has been visiting the island for nearly a decade. He said: “I’ve always felt so much creative energy from the great young people I’ve met in Bermuda.“This made Bermuda the perfect place to produce an event that can serve as an outlet for young creatives, as well as a launch pad for new ideas.”He added: “We’re grateful for the hospitality and support we’ve received and we’re looking forward to developing the relationship for many years to come.” Anyone interested in attending the seminar can register at inspirebermuda.com; the marketplace is free to attend.
