Popular Bermudiana Road eatery Nonna’s Kitchen is to open a third outlet at the Playtrium children’s playground in Smith’s Parish.

The café officially opens tomorrow at the indoor facility on South Road, just east of Collector’s Hill, and will be open seven days a week.

Playtrium owner Heather Super approached Katerina Smith, the co-owner of Nonna’s, after reading about the opening of Nonna’s second outlet at ESC on Mills Creek Road in Pembroke, seven months ago.

“I love Nonna’s food, and I have always had the intention to have some sort of café here,” says Ms Super, who opened Playtrium two years ago.

“When they opened a café at ESC, I thought I had missed my chance. But then I asked Kat, and to my surprise she said ‘sure, let’s do it’.”

Ms Smith said: “It’s tiny, but it’s so cute, so we decided to give it a go.”

The 84-square-foot café was fitted out by Heather’s father, Harold Pimentel, who closed in a portion of the porch.

Outdoor seating for 12 is available on the wheelchair-accessible porch, or patrons can eat inside at Playtrium.

“The seating inside is comfortable, the children are all in front of you playing, you have wi-fi, and you can grab something from Nonna’s and relax,” Ms Super said.

She added: “It’s also a great ‘grab-and-go’ option for moms after the school drop-off in the morning.”

The café will serve breakfast and lunch, Monday to Friday from 8am until 4pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8.30am until 5pm.

Ms Smith said the café can open later for special functions, and can also provide catering services, a menu for which is on the Playtrium website or can be supplied upon request.

Breakfast offerings include fresh-baked scones, croissants, French pastries, and made-to-order breakfast sandwiches.

The lunch menu includes homemade sandwiches and salads, two rotating soups daily, vegetarian and beef chilli, and a range of gluten-free and vegan options.

“Everything is fresh and healthy — there are no processed foods,” Ms Smith said.

Coffee, keto drinks and a range of cold vegetable and fruit drinks are available all day.
