FryDays is kicking off the new year by turning things upside down at its Hamilton location.Their old PlayTimeZone for young children is now gone, replaced with a quirky new dining space, which includes a table for gravity-defying diners who wish to eat on the ceiling.“It’s Bermuda’s first completely ‘Instagrammable’ restaurant,” co-owner Vic Ball said. “We want you to take pictures where you would want to take pictures. We have the upside down dining area. We have the birthday chair where they can sit or if they just want. There are lips painted on the wall. There is a ‘loungey’ couch.”Even some of the menu offerings have been made photo-ready with smoking drinks, pinwheels and creative milkshakes.Mr Ball and Ms Weeks made the change because many of the children who used the PlayTimeZone were going to FryDays’ Trampoline Park in Dockyard instead. The addition of the dining hall solved a space squeeze that became critical last March when FryDays opened the Inspire Café next to the play area in Hamilton.“We just didn’t have enough space at Inspire,” Ms Weeks said. “I was turning away customers.”“If you have more people you can make more money as a restaurant,” Mr Ball said.His hope is to see the dining room become Bermuda’s No 1 party place. The space has only been open a week and has already hosted a party, and booked several more for the coming weeks.“Our aim is for this facility to become Bermuda’s No 1 party location,” Mr Ball said.The Inspire Café is now a games lounge targeting older children and teenagers. Ms Weeks said in business you have to innovate. “You have to keep moving and you have to grow,” she said. “If you go around the world, gaming lounges are popular. Players are winning scholarships and lots of money. We have a facility now for Bermudians to come in and be able to compete worldwide.” They can come in and top up on their gaming on state of the art equipment. Bermuda should have what the rest of the world has, and we have it.They have Racecar, Xbox, Fortnite and other games.“People love Fortnite,” Ms Weeks said. “It is really popular. They come in and they play in the same element and battle with each other. Fifa has also been popular and Minecraft, but we have other famous games.”They credited TCS Electrics with helping them to do much of the renovation work. “They do a lot more than electrics,” Ms Weeks said. “They are very skilled. They are awesome.”The FryDays restaurant, dining hall and games room are all connected now.The revamped FryDays reopened quietly this month, but hope to do a bigger launch soon.“So far we’ve had great feedback from people,” Ms Weeks said.
