A new motorcycle and accessories shop has opened on Spurling Hill.Helmet Town is a branch of Cycle Zone, the well-established business located on Somerset Road in Sandys Parish. The new shop sells Honda SH150, Daelin 125 and Reiju MRT motorcycles, Michelin tyres, and a wide range of MT, Shark and Malossi brand helmets. It also stocks batteries, baskets, suspension, engine oil, safety gear, repair kits, and alarm locks.Jeneko Place, 26, is managing the new location after spending six years as a motorcycle mechanic at the Somerset branch. He is a graduate of CedarBridge Academy and completed an 18-month course at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Florida.“It is slowly catching on,” he says of the shop. “We haven’t done any big advertising on radio or in the newspaper, we are on Instagram and Snapchat, plus there is word-of-mouth and the sign outside.“Everybody kept asking us ‘when are you moving to town?’ because a lot of our customers are in town already. Being here gives people more of an option when they are shopping in town for helmets and bikes.“Now, people can stop by and finish shopping around. Most people do price shopping and then come back for something that suits their pocket and catches their eye.”Mr Place said he expects that the shop’s location on the fringes of Hamilton may prove beneficial.“We are close to the rest of the bike shops, but not everybody wants to be all the way in town,” he said. “If you are on the outskirts, it’s probably perfect.”Helmet Town is open Monday to Friday from 11am until 6pm, and Saturday from 11.30am until 5pm.
