Quick-thinking onlookers rescued a female Saltus student from the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association pool on Tuesday after she lost consciousness during a training session.
“Immediate action by the coach and parent, followed by quick action by emergency services and the hospital, have assured the speedy recovery of the young girl,” deputy headteacher Jon Beard said, adding that the “Saltus family have held her in our thoughts and prayers”.
The student was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.
“This incident could have had a tragic outcome were it not for those in positions of responsibility,” Mr Beard said.
“It emphasises the concern for people not to be swimming alone, and for young people to be responsibly supervised.”
