Victoria Pearman, the Ombudsman for Bermuda, tabled her 2016 annual report earlier today in the House of Assembly.

The report was filed with the Speaker of the House on June 30, but could not be released until Parliament had reconvened.

According to a statement from the Ombudsman’s office, the report highlights “for the third year in a row the fact that the Land Title Registry Office remains closed to the public as a matter of grave concern”.

It also includes commentary on the Ombudsman’s discussions with the Bermuda Monetary Authority on how bank-related complaints are addressed — and whether Consumer Affairs is the appropriate office to field complaints.

There is further commentary on the Treatment of Offenders Board, and efforts to address gaps in the complaint handling procedures for inmates.
