Motorists are being reminded to be drive and ride with care this long weekend.

The message from the Bermuda Road Safety Council comes ahead of what is expected to be a busy National Heroes Day weekend.

Dennis Lister III, president of the BRSC, said in a statement hundred of locals and visitors alike would be out celebrating for the holiday weekend festivities.

Mr Lister said: “We encourage all of Bermuda to take five seconds before turning on the ignition and truly focus on the task at hand.

“Please ensure caution is taken before proceeding on the road.

“Should alcohol be consumed, make other arrangements for transportation.”

He also reminded riders to fasten helmets, and that motorcyclists and drivers alike should slow down and put their mobile phones down.

Mr Lister added: “These simple steps can assist all our community in maintaining safe passage on our roads.”

He encouraged those drinking this weekend to ensure they had a designated driver to provide a safe ride home.

Mr Lister said representatives of the BRSC would be out for the weekend parade providing participants with road safety literature, as well as giveaways.

He added: “Please do your part to ensure this holiday remains a celebration and not a visit to the emergency department.”
