An overgrown stretch of the Railway Trail has been cleared after complaints by residents.

Michael Dunkley, Smith’s North MP and shadow national security minister, said Dunkley’s Dairy staff worked with the nearby Green Land Dairy Farm to tackle vegetation on the trail at Store Hill after The Royal Gazette highlighted the problem last Friday.

Mr Dunkley said: “I immediately reached out to the Minister of Public Works when I saw there was an issue about how overgrown it was.

“In the meantime, I reached out to Valter Medeiros at Green Land Farm and said if he could get a crew up there later on Friday afternoon, I could send some of our guys and we could get it cleared up for the weekend.

“He was more than happy to do it. We were happy to get it done and they did an excellent job.”

Mr Dunkley said he had not been through the area in a few weeks and that recent summer showers had probably contributed to the problem.

He added: “I know how the rain really makes a difference on that type of grass, particularly in the summertime.”

Mr Dunkley said: “Since the trail has been extended it sees a lot more use and because of that it needs to be maintained.”
