The police service pitched in to help clean up trash around the island at the weekend.

Police officers and staff, including Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley, collected rubbish at several spots, including Parsons Road in Pembroke, Ducks Puddle Drive in Hamilton Parish and Cambridge Beach in Somerset.

Almost 50 volunteers took part and collected about 90 bags of trash in two hours.

A police spokesman said the event was a “resounding success”.

He added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who participated. Bermuda was left a little better because they did something special to make our community better.”

The clean-ups were part of a series of activities for Police Week, which started on Saturday.

Officers remembered colleagues who lost their lives on duty, who died in service and retired officers who have died at a memorial service at the police cemetery on Alexandra Road in Devonshire on Sunday.

Events for this week include a tea for seniors at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club today, a staff fun day at Police Field on Thursday, and the Commissioner’s Reception at the Police Recreation Club on Friday.
