Bermuda’s New Zealand residents are to hold a candlelight vigil in a Hamilton city park in memory of the victims of a white supremacist attack in their homeland.

The event will be staged this evening to honour 50 people killed in the terror attacks at two mosques in Christchurch, in the South Island of New Zealand, last Friday.

Organisers said a short welcome would be followed by a prayer, two minutes’ silence, and the New Zealand national anthem.

Hilary Carr, a New Zealander who helped set up the vigil, said: “There’s been so much disbelief and shock.

“We’ve had strangers coming up to us expressing their sadness. Other Kiwis here said we should come together in solidarity.”

A leading member of the Muslim community will also speak at the event. Organisers requested that attendees bring candles with drip catchers.

They added that, rather than buying flowers, people should make a donation to NZ Victim Support Give a Little: Christchurch Shooting Victims Fund,
