Public art unveiled in Hamilton

Another installation has been added to a public art project.

The mural showing schoolchildren has been installed next to the taxi cab parking spaces near City Hall in Hamilton as part of the 2019 Vivid Art Initiative. The scheme, started by the Corporation of Hamilton, was set up to commission art installations from independent artists and art organisations for spots across the city.

A spokeswoman for the Corporation of Hamilton said that the art project, formerly called the City Art Festival, was intended to turn Hamilton into a “vibrant city”.

She added: “At the beginning of the year, we put the call out for private property owners to submit their property for consideration.

“Of course, the appropriate permissions from the property owners had to be in place, but it’s a great opportunity to expand the public art around the City and not just limit it to City-owned properties.”

The spokeswoman said that more information about the new mural and the artist, who asked not to be named, will be released next week after the piece has been completed.
