Three new youth clubs have been set up by the organisers of the Back to School Extravaganza.

Brothers Dwayne, Wayne and Travis Caines will launch their seventh annual event on Monday, when they will give away school supplies and offer children free haircuts in partnership with Five Star Barbershop.

Travis Caines announced that after this year’s event the brothers will also set up an ongoing homework club, after-school programme and boys’ club.

He told a press conference yesterday: “We believe that one-off events are important but we must create sustaining programmes that give our students the best opportunity for success.”

Mr Caines said more information on the clubs would be provided at a later date.

The theme for this year’s extravaganza is Be Brave, Be Bold, Be You.

Mr Caines explained: “This is our way of empowering our students to believe that nothing is impossible for them to achieve.

“It will be an awesome event. We ask you, if you know anyone in need, to encourage them to come by because people can be timid.

“It is not just giveaways, there will be music and games and they will have fun.”

Community sponsors include Hiscox, Marsh & McLennan Companies, Rosewood Bermuda, BGA, Surface Trends, Coral Dental, Bermuda Carnival, Funkins and the Heritage Worship Centre.

Mr Caines added: “We would also like to thank the men and women who have volunteered their services such as the barbers and hair braiders. We would like to thank the volunteers who will be assisting us throughout the day.”

The Back to School Extravaganza takes place on Monday from 8am to 5pm at the Heritage Worship Centre, at the New Testament Church of God, Dundonald Street.
