Butterfield charmed by Charman entrants

The finalists of the 2019 Charman Prize were praised for their remarkable talent. Tom Butterfield, the founder and executive director of the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, which hosts the annual art competition, said the entrants were among “the best yet”.Mr Butterfield added: “This year’s finalists, all 107 of them, presented very difficult choices for the judges.“The quality of work, the interpretation of the theme, Quo Fata Ferunt, and the presentations were remarkable. In all, the best yet and a wonderful experience.” Jayde Gibbons’s photography collage Neighbourhood Kids won the top prize and there were five runners-up. The categories, runners- up and title of works were: Masterworks Collection Prize — Kyle James, Morning City Rise; Design and Composition — Kok Wan Lee, Uncertainty Landscape; Use of Material — Andrea Sundt, Ember; Distinctive and Convincing Style — Gillian Outerbridge, Old Autumn in the Misty Morn; Source of Inspiration — Charles Zuill, Primal Bermuda.The Charman Prize was set up to encourage art inspired by Bermuda and support island artists.
