An attack on an off-duty police officer by young men riding scrambler motorcycles has been condemned by the Bermuda Motocross Club.The BMC statement said the incident at 4.30pm on Monday, in the parking lot at Clearwater Beach in St George’s, was “not at all associated” with the club or any of its members.The officer, whose wife and eight-year-old daughter were present, was set upon and struck with a motorcycle after telling the group that their driving was causing alarm to members of the public.Arlene Simmons, the president of the club, said the organisation wished to “publicly condemn, in the strongest terms, the antisocial behaviour”.She added: “We will assist the authorities with their investigation and work with them to ensure that the vicinity within and surrounding the racetrack where our members ride remains a safe environment for all.“The management team of the BMC works diligently to ensure that we foster and maintain a family-friendly environment that provides our members with opportunities to ride motocross bikes in a controlled setting where they are not a risk to the public. The BMC is governed by rules and by-laws that serve to protect our members and the community, and they have been and will remain strictly enforced.”Ms Simmons said the public were welcome at motocross events.The Southside Motorsports Park will host motocross events on Sunday and Monday, starting at 12.30pm, with entrance fees at $5 for children and $10 for adults.
