Mad Hatters Restaurant and the Bermuda Fudge Company have teamed up to offer kerbside delivery of the sweet treat.

Sarah Burrows, the owner of the Dockyard-based fudge makers, said she was forced to look at new ways to generate revenue after the Covid-19 crisis hit the island.

Ms Burrows added: “Since the launch of Bermuda Fudge Company in 2014, this year, 2020, was to be the year when all the kinks and wrinkles had been sorted out and bumper cruise ship passenger numbers were truly going to be a sweet year.”

However, she said: “As the saying goes, the best-laid plans of mice and men often go astray.”

Ms Burrows examined ways to take advantage of the start of the second phase of a four-stage return to normality and make things “a little sweeter”.

She contacted Ben Jewett and Ed Barnes, of Mad Hatters, on Richmond Road in Pembroke, and asked if they would like to add fudge to their kerbside menu.

She sent some samples and Bermuda Fudge is now on the menu in a selection of flavours — chocolate, peanut butter, and chocolate mocha.

Mr Burrows said: “It is a marriage of amazing dinners and a decadent dessert — which just happens to be gluten free.”

The Bermuda Fudge Company will also launch “Sweet Sundays” from noon to 5pm in Dockyard, where the fudge can be bought through the firm’s online shop for kerbside pick-up, local delivery or direct from its kiosk as part of #ChooseBDA marketing campaign.

Ms Burrows said that online orders for kerbside handover must be placed by midnight on the Saturday before pick-up.

Customers must wear a face mask at the service counter and observe social-distancing.

The company will offer a 19 per cent discount on all sales until the fourth phase of recovery and Mad Hatters will also provide some gift certificates for a random draw to sweeten the deal for a few lucky few customers.

Ms Burrows said the company was now looking for other businesses which wanted to feature its products.
