Public praised for turning in police ammunition

A loaded handgun magazine lost by an armed police officer has been recovered, police said yesterday.A police spokesman said the magazine was handed in by a member of the public.He added: “The BPS would like to thank the individual who did the right thing by handing in the magazine and ammunition.”Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley said: “This action by a member of the community may well have prevented any untoward situations occurring had the ammunition ended up in the wrong hands.“It’s yet another example of members of the community working with their police service to ensure a safer Bermuda.”The magazine fell off an officer’s belt as he chased a suspect armed with a knife just after 4pm on Wednesday.
