About 60 people gathered on Saturday for the Progressive Labour Party’s Women in Politics forum.

They shared thoughts on issues that affect women including employment opportunities and trying to strike a work-life balance.

Speakers included Lovitta Foggo, the Minister responsible for Government Reform, Renée Ming, PLP backbencher and Dame Jennifer Smith, the former premier.

The meeting, hosted by the party’s Women’s Caucus, combined humour with rousing addresses on a series of topics.

Alexa Lightbourne, caucus chair and moderator of the event, called it an “overwhelming success”.

She added: “The mission of the Women’s Caucus is to educate, empower and advocate women’s issues and this forum succeed in meeting those objectives.

“While we initially wanted to host this intimate forum to accommodate 40 persons, we were overwhelmed with a room of nearly 70 diverse women engaged in learning and dialogue on key issues.”

Ms Lightbourne said it was “awesome” to take part in the experience.

She added: “We gained so much from the perspectives of the presenters and we left truly enriched.

“This forum is just the beginning.”

The event was the second public forum put on by the Women’s Caucus, which was formed last year.
