TeamBDA members to open Dive In Festival

Diverse team: Dimitri Stevens, far right, and Shomari Warner, second from right, were two members of the island's Red Bull Youth America's Cup TeamBDA and both will speak at the opening reception of the Dive In Festival next Tuesday

Members of Bermuda’s Red Bull Youth America’s Cup team will next week open three days of events designed to promote diversity in the insurance industry.

TeamBDA members Shomari Warner and Dimitri Stephens, along with Laura Cutler, the team’s manager and director, will present their perspectives on the challenges and benefits of being a part of a diverse team at the Dive In Festival’s opening reception.

The event will be hosted by Chubb next Tuesday.

The Dive In Festival will take place from September 26 to 28 with events in a record number of 31 locations across the globe.

The festival aims to highlight “the business case for diverse and inclusive workplaces and provide practical ideas and inspiration for how to bring about positive change”.

TeamBDA was Bermuda’s entry in the 2017 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, an international competition designed to create a pathway for young sailors into the highest level of sailing, worldwide.

Mr Warner, 23, and Mr Stevens, 22, were selected through a series of gruelling physical and mental assessments that initially sought to identify athletes capable of withstanding the extreme physical and mental challenge of racing a high-performance foiling catamaran — sailing ability was just one of the criteria looked at in evaluating the candidates.

The Bermuda Dive In Festival committee is supported by Abir, Aon, Argus, Chubb, Hamilton Re, Willis Towers Watson and XL Catlin.

Dive In sessions are free to attend and open to everyone working in insurance. To register for this event visit: Diveinfestival.com/events.
