Bermudian-based staff of XL Catlin stepped away from their desks to give back to the community during the company’s Global Day of Giving.

“Even though the Global Day of Giving is in its thirteenth year, it never gets old,” said Patrick Tannock, chairman of XL Catlin’s philanthropic unit, the XL Foundation.

“Whether we are working on a project that requires hard labour or sharing our skills and expertise, it’s such a gratifying feeling to spend time helping non-profit organisations that are working tirelessly year round to make a difference in our local communities despite having to do more with less.”

Mr Tannock was involved in volunteering at WindReach Bermuda, where XL Catlin employees painted a room at the facility that enriches the lives of people of all abilities, ages and special needs.

Other non-profit organisations and community projects that benefited on XL Catlin’s day of giving included the National Museum of Bermuda, where employees of the company helped with pre-restoration work at Casemates Barracks, including clearing away invasive plants.

Clearing shrubs, planting new trees, and trimming trails was carried out on Trunk Island, while other XL Catlin teams partnered with Keep Bermuda Beautiful on World Oceans Day to clean up trash on beaches and trails of the South Shore in Warwick.

The company also had teams helping out at Meals on Wheels, Bermuda SPCA, Pals, Eliza DoLittle Society, Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy and the Centre Against Abuse.

The local efforts were part of a global endeavour by thousands of XL Catlin employees, who participated in 250 projects at about 60 locations around the world.
