Five members of PwC Bermuda’s captive team will participate in panel discussions at the fifteenth annual Bermuda Captive Conference.

The conference begins today and runs through Wednesday at the Fairmont Southampton hotel.

Organisers bill the conference as the island’s largest and longest-running industry event. Some 800 attendees are expected.

PwC said specialists in the areas of captive insurance, regulation and tax will share their perspectives on a number of topics of concern in the market including Bermuda’s economic substance requirements, and international tax and anti-money laundering developments.

The PwC team will also lead educational sessions for students and captive professionals, and discuss Bermuda’s significant contribution to the global market as the world’s largest captive domicile.

David Gibbons, PwC Bermuda captive insurance leader, said: “PwC’s captive team looks forward to participating in a number of sessions that will be focused around developments in the market, as well as education, professional development, and supporting Bermuda in its efforts to continue to grow its captive insurance industry sector, which contributes an estimated $174 million to our Bermuda economy.”

He added: “PwC is also pleased to once again host the conference’s official welcome reception on Monday evening at the Fairmont Southampton beach terrace and connect with delegates — many of whom come from overseas.”

PwC’s participation begins at 1pm on the panel “Bermuda: The Home of Captives and What that Means”. Danielle Moniz, senior associate, assurance-captive insurance, will discuss Bermuda’s contributions to the global captive industry and take part in student education sessions.

At 4.30pm, David Gibbons, captive insurance leader and lead insurance and assurance partner, will sit on the panel, “How to take your Career as a Captive Professional to the Next Level”. He will lead the panel in a discussion of career development for risk managers and captive professionals.

Tomorrow at 4.30pm, PwC advisory leader James Ferris will moderate the panel “Economic Substance”. The session will address some of the more compelling questions surrounding the new EU Economic Substance rules and discuss how Bermuda service providers can support captives and their owners in demonstrating substance.

On Wednesday at 2.30pm, Jennifer Masters, assurance manager, captive insurance, will take part in the panel “From KYC to AML: The Practical Application”. The panel will discuss the impact anti-money laundering and antiterrorist financing policy has had on the operation of captives and will cover guidance on how to approach certain AML/ATF and KYC requirements in the jurisdiction.

Also on Wednesday, at 3.45pm, Scott Slater, partner-tax services, will moderate the panel “International Tax Developments”, a session on international tax issues affecting captives and US tax compliance.
