Third Point Reinsurance Ltd and Willis (Bermuda) Ltd have joined a list of businesses to show support for the Bermuda Pride parade on August 31.

Windows at the offices of Willis Towers Watson’s Bermuda operation, which face out on to Pitts Bay Road and The Waterfront Property have been decorated to show the company’s support for Pride.

Paul Scope, chairman of Willis (Bermuda) Ltd, and Willis Towers Watson market head of Bermuda, said the companies support the upcoming parade.

He said that globally WTW has been celebrating Pride for many years, and this year is also noteworthy not only because it is Bermuda’s first Pride parade, but it is the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in New York City which was known as the birth of the modern LGBTQ movement.

Mr Scope said: “ I am proud to be part of a global company that continually rolls out the rainbow carpet and raises Pride flags to publicly honour and share their commitment.”

Wendy Percy, inclusion and diversity spokeswoman for Bermuda WTW, said Bermuda Pride 2019 is a time to bring people together to celebrate diversity and raise awareness.

She said: “By visibly demonstrating our support it helps build a more inclusive culture not only within our office but the industry. We are pleased to be part of a growing collaboration with other Bermuda re/insurance companies as we believe it ultimately enhances client awareness and contributes to our image as a great industry to work in.”

Meanwhile, Third Point Re is sponsoring the St John Ambulance service at the Pride event.

Dan Malloy, chief executive officer of Third Point Re, said: “The theme of the Bermuda Pride parade is ‘We Belong’, which echoes Third Point Re’s initiative to foster a progressive and inclusive working environment.

“ We strive to ensure our people feel valued and can be themselves at work. Third Point Re is proud to have a supportive and diverse team; diversity and inclusion are central to our culture."
