Maurice “Hank” Greenberg, the hard-nosed insurance executive who built American International Group into the world’s largest insurer, is to be honoured with a “lifetime leadership” award next week by the Peter J Tobin College of Business at St John’s University.Mr Greenberg, who spent four decades at the helm of Bermudian-based AIG, is chairman and chief executive officer of CV Starr, Starr Insurance Companies and The Starr Foundation, the latter of which is based on-island. He is to be honoured next Wednesday by the School of Risk Management at St John’s as part of the school’s 25th anniversary celebration of the Insurance Leader Annual Award Dinner.Kevin Kelley, chairman of the SRM board of overseers, said: “The Insurance Leader of the Year accolade has a 25-year history of awarding industry leaders for distinguished achievements. “This year, in celebration of the silver anniversary of this esteemed award, the school has selected to honour an individual for ‘lifetime leadership’, someone who continues to be influential in the industry, and whose lifetime achievements have been exceptional and far-reaching.“In this category, Hank Greenberg is peerless.
